One launch partner vs. hiring separate suppliers
An honest comparison of launching with one partner or hiring a strategist, designer, copywriter and PR service separately: cost, coordination and consistency.
Updated October 6, 2026 · 5 min read · For anyone deciding how to put a launch together
Side by side
| What you need | Hiring separately | One launch partner |
|---|---|---|
| Research and positioning | A strategist, if you hire one at all | Done first; everything else is built on it |
| Website and copy | A designer and a copywriter, briefed by you | Written and built from your approved positioning |
| Press launch | A PR service; you write or brief the release | Written for you and published on news sites |
| Customer acquisition plan | Often missing | Included |
| Coordination | You manage several timelines and invoices | One team, one timeline, one point of contact |
| Typical cost | Often US$4,000–6,000 or more at mid-market rates | One fixed price |
Separate-hire costs are typical published 2026 rates for each service in the US and Canada; your quotes may differ.
When hiring separately makes sense
- You already have tested positioning and a clear offer.
- You need only one or two pieces (for example, just a website).
- You enjoy managing suppliers, or have someone who does it for you.
- You have existing suppliers you trust.
When one partner makes sense
- You're starting from an idea, or relaunching and repositioning.
- You want the website, profiles, announcement and plan to say the same thing.
- Your time is better spent with clients than briefing suppliers.
- You want one fixed price and one point of contact.
Questions to ask any supplier
- What do you need from me, and how much of my time will it take?
- What happens before design starts? Who writes the words?
- How many rounds of changes are included?
- Who owns the website and content when we're done? Can I take a copy?
- Are there monthly fees after launch?
- What can't you promise? (Be wary of anyone guaranteeing rankings, coverage on named outlets or sales.)
Questions
Is one partner always cheaper?
Not always. If you need only one piece, hiring that specialist can cost less. Combined launches usually cost less as one package, and save the time you'd spend coordinating.
Can I bring my own designer or copywriter?
With separate suppliers, yes. With a launch partner, ask whether they can work with your existing materials or brand.
Who should do positioning?
Whoever does it, do it first. A website or press release written before the positioning is settled usually has to be redone.
Every package, what it includes and the price, with no monthly fees.
